About our volunteers

Friends of Kinaba is a local volunteer group that helps protect the natural beauty and cultural importance of the Cooloola region and Great Sandy National Park. We also help visitors learn more about this special area and how to care for it.

Many of our members have lived in Boreen Point for many years and care deeply about protecting the region for future generations.

Our volunteers:

  • help maintain the timber buildings, walkways, jetties, and verandas by painting, oiling and treating the wood when needed
  • clean display area, facilities, and windows
  • undertake general maintenance and repairs.

Because we are a lake community, our volunteers are experienced in travelling to Kinaba by canoe, kayak, sailing boat or dinghy, or our workboat, Jabiru.

All volunteer work is carried out to the standards required by Queensland Parks and Wildlife authorities, helping to protect and preserve this important place and its environment for the future.
